What is a Salary Calculator?

A salary calculator helps estimate how an employee’s earnings, deductions and employer benefits combine to produce gross salary, take-home salary and total compensation.

Gross Salary Formula

Gross Salary

Basic Salary + HRA + Other Allowances + Bonus / Incentive

Take-Home Salary Formula

Total Deductions

PF / Retirement Contribution + Tax / TDS + Other Deductions

Take-Home Salary

Gross Salary − Total Deductions

CTC Formula

Estimated CTC

Gross Salary + Employer Contributions / Benefits

Salary Calculation Example

Basic Salary: ₹30,000
HRA: ₹12,000
Other Allowances: ₹8,000

Gross Salary:
₹30,000 + ₹12,000 + ₹8,000
= ₹50,000 per month

If PF / retirement deduction is ₹3,600 and other deductions are ₹400:

Total Deductions = ₹4,000
Take-Home Salary = ₹46,000 per month

Annual Take-Home = ₹5,52,000

Gross Salary vs Take-Home Salary

Gross salary is the employee’s earnings before employee-side deductions. Take-home salary is the amount remaining after the deductions entered in the calculator.

Salary vs CTC

CTC, or Cost to Company, can include compensation or benefits paid by the employer that may not be received directly as monthly cash salary. Therefore, CTC and take-home salary are not the same.
