What is an NPS Calculator?

An NPS Calculator estimates the potential retirement corpus that may be accumulated through regular contributions to the National Pension System. It can also estimate how the corpus may be divided between a lump-sum amount and an annuity at retirement.

How Does This NPS Calculator Work?

The calculator assumes that a fixed contribution is made every month and compounds it using the expected annual return entered by the user. Monthly contributions are treated as being made at the end of each month.

Estimated NPS Corpus

FV = P × [((1 + i)n − 1) ÷ i]

P = Monthly NPS contribution
i = Expected monthly rate of return
n = Total number of monthly contributions

Estimated Returns = Retirement Corpus − Total Contributions

How is Estimated Monthly Pension Calculated?

Annuity Corpus = Retirement Corpus × Annuity Allocation %

Estimated Annual Pension = Annuity Corpus × Assumed Annuity Rate

Estimated Monthly Pension = Estimated Annual Pension ÷ 12

NPS Calculation Example

Current Age: 30 years
Retirement Age: 60 years
Monthly Contribution: ₹5,000
Expected Annual Return: 10%
Investment Period: 30 years

Total Contributions: ₹18,00,000

The calculator estimates the retirement corpus using monthly compounding and then divides the corpus according to the selected lump-sum and annuity percentages.

What is the Annuity Portion?

An annuity converts part of the accumulated retirement corpus into periodic pension income. The actual pension depends on the annuity amount, annuity provider, selected annuity option, prevailing annuity rates and other applicable conditions.

NPS Returns Are Market-Linked

NPS investments are market-linked, so the expected annual return entered in this calculator is only an assumption. Actual returns can vary from year to year and the final corpus may be higher or lower than the estimate.
