What is an Attendance Required Calculator?
An Attendance Required Calculator determines how many consecutive future classes a student must attend to raise their current attendance percentage to a required target.
Attendance Formula
(Classes Attended ÷ Total Classes Held) × 100
Required Classes Formula
A = Classes already attended
T = Total classes already held
R = Required attendance as a decimal
x = Number of future classes you attend
To reach the target:
(A + x) ÷ (T + x) ≥ R
Therefore:
x ≥ (R × T − A) ÷ (1 − R)
Attendance Required Example
Total classes held = 100
Classes attended = 70
Required attendance = 75%
Current attendance:
70 ÷ 100 × 100
= 70%
Required future classes:
(0.75 × 100 − 70) ÷ (1 − 0.75)
= 5 ÷ 0.25
= 20 classes
After attending 20 consecutive classes:
Classes attended = 90
Total classes = 120
90 ÷ 120 × 100
= 75%
Why Does the Total Number of Classes Increase?
Every future class you attend increases both the number of classes attended and the total number of classes conducted. For this reason, simply calculating the current attendance shortage is not enough to determine how many classes are required.
What if My Attendance is Already Above the Target?
If your current attendance is already equal to or above the selected target, the calculator will show that no additional classes are mathematically required to reach that target. You may still need to attend future classes to remain above the requirement.
Can I Reach 100% Attendance?
If you have already missed one or more classes, attending future classes will increase your attendance toward 100%, but it cannot make the mathematical percentage exactly 100%. If you have never missed a class, your attendance is already 100%.
Important: This calculator assumes every future class has the same attendance weight and that you attend every class included in the required calculation. Colleges, universities and schools may use subject-wise attendance, practical/lab attendance, condonation rules, medical exemptions or different rounding methods. Always check your institution’s official attendance rules.
