What is a Marks Calculator?
A Marks Calculator helps students calculate their total marks, percentage, average score and overall result from marks obtained in different subjects.
Marks Percentage Formula
(Marks Obtained ÷ Total Maximum Marks) × 100
Marks Calculation Example
Subject 1 = 75 / 100
Subject 2 = 82 / 100
Subject 3 = 68 / 100
Subject 4 = 90 / 100
Subject 5 = 85 / 100
Total Marks Obtained:
75 + 82 + 68 + 90 + 85
= 400
Maximum Marks:
100 × 5
= 500
Percentage:
400 ÷ 500 × 100
= 80%
How Average Marks are Calculated
Total Marks Obtained ÷ Number of Subjects
Average marks and overall percentage are different when subjects have different maximum marks. The overall percentage uses total obtained marks divided by total maximum marks.
Example Grade Scale
This calculator uses the following general grade scale for convenience. Schools, boards, colleges and universities may use different grading systems.
| Percentage | Grade |
|---|---|
| 90% – 100% | A+ |
| 80% – 89.99% | A |
| 70% – 79.99% | B+ |
| 60% – 69.99% | B |
| 50% – 59.99% | C |
| 40% – 49.99% | D |
| Below 40% | F |
Pass Every Subject vs Overall Percentage
The Pass Every Subject option requires the student to achieve the selected passing percentage in every subject. The Overall Percentage Only option checks the combined percentage instead.
