What is Net Worth?

Net worth is the value of what you own after subtracting what you owe. Assets can include cash, investments, property, retirement savings, vehicles and other valuable possessions. Liabilities include loans, credit card balances and other outstanding debts.

Net Worth Formula

Net Worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities

If your assets are worth more than your liabilities, your net worth is positive. If your liabilities exceed your assets, your net worth is negative.

Net Worth Example

Suppose you have:

Total Assets: ₹67,00,000
Total Liabilities: ₹23,50,000

Your estimated net worth would be:
₹67,00,000 − ₹23,50,000 = ₹43,50,000

What Should Be Included as an Asset?

Common assets include money in bank accounts, fixed deposits, mutual funds, stocks, bonds, retirement accounts, real estate, gold, vehicles, business ownership and other valuable assets. For a realistic calculation, use an approximate current value rather than the original purchase price.

What Should Be Included as a Liability?

Liabilities generally include the outstanding amount of home loans, vehicle loans, education loans, personal loans, credit card balances, business debt and other money that you currently owe.

What is the Debt-to-Asset Ratio?

Debt-to-Asset Ratio = Total Liabilities ÷ Total Assets × 100

This calculator displays the ratio as an additional financial snapshot. A lower ratio means a smaller portion of your assets is matched by outstanding liabilities.

Why Track Net Worth?

Tracking net worth over time can provide a broader picture of financial progress than looking only at income or bank balances. Paying down debt, building savings and investments, or increasing asset values can improve net worth, while additional borrowing or falling asset values can reduce it.
